My lesson learnt today was that the problems are usually simple rather than obscure complexities.

I used to work in tech support. A client called up and said that his program crashed when he went to lunch. It used to work ok but recently it stopped working. I asked him when it was last working and then what changed just before it stopped working.
It transpired that management had ordered some cost cutting measures and told all staff to turn off their computers when they went to lunch. When he turned on his computer again after lunch the program had crashed!
