A wish/feature to improve quality of two color printing (1 reply)

I have a dual extrusion 3D printer. Printing two color objects in acceptable quality is very difficult. Main Problems are dripping of material of the extruder not in use on the object and also clogging of the material in the extruder in situations, where the secon color is needed only late in the build process but heated up from the very beginning by slic3r. produced gcode.

Bot situation could be heavily improved for all objects with an infill specified, if slic3r would allow the following setting under "Print Settings", "Multiple Extruders" a new checkbox to select

"Alternate infill extruder"

resulting in the fill layer part being built by both extruders, alternating on each layer change between extruder 0 and extruder 1. With this no clogging would occur and drops would also be minimized, because both extruders are in use most of the time.

In addition it would help, if there would be an M-code to adjust the temperature in a relative way, like specified -30 degrees or "half temperature" etc and if the possibility would exist to specify a kind of "Delay Heatup until extruder actually used" checkbox. Of course with supporting logig to generate that better g-code. Repetier firmware support may also be required to allow such new g-codes.

Such features would give slic3r a real competitive advantage over other slicers at a time where two color printing starts to get popular..
