I keep thinking about multiple heads and how much I could do with them. but I just don't want to give up all that room on the X axis. I made the aluminum frame I3 XL just for the long print bed. Not that I use it all that often, but sure is nice when I want to encroach past the 200 y limit. I have plenty more room to go from there.
Anyway, back to the x axis. I have been looking and looking and can't find anyone that has made a dual extruder that is stacked along the Y axis. I would rather loose that room on the Y than on the X. Is there any reason why this would not work? I know there might be some geometry changes to the Y travel to even it up but wouldn't that solve a bunch of issues with loosing said X axis? Are not the settings available to have a Y offset instead of X offset?
I bet this is one of those things that I just missed searching for.
