problem with stepper motors (no replies)

Hi guys,

I'm new to 3d printing. I just got my ramps 1.4 with a4988 drivers and kyson nema17 motors. I uploaded marlin firmware to test motors with pointerface. In full step mode (no jumper) motors was not spinning, just made nasty sound. I played with pot but no luck. When I added jumper and set to 1/4 stepping mode all problems was solved. So can someone tell where is the catch? Am I missed something configirating something? In what mode are you running your motors?
