This whole thing is kind of a mess, and it might not matter now that I am going to a better hot end, but-
When I would test print with my cheap mixshop kit included extruder(junk), I couldn't get it to extrude pla at 180. (1.75mm, .3 nozzle). So I would jump the temp up to 200, and it worked fine.....for a few layers at least. After the first few, it would always jump down to 180. I guess I should note that I am using a raspberry pi, and octoprint for my control(love octoprint!) I ended up setting the defalt for both pla and abs to 200, and I made sure on slic3r that I set both the first layer, and other layers extruder temp to 200? Any clue why it would have been dropping temp on its own?
I will note that I ordered a better hotend from nwreprap. the mixshop one had no good way to mount it, and it tended to wobble(and then bend out last night when printing. Now I am just waiting on 3mm filament to arrive so I can test again.
